Latest guidance suggests a very soggy Thanksgiving

Image
Sponsor: By: Ryan Fannock If you read my post yesterday, I wrote that Thanksgiving was starting to trend warmer on the models with temps in the upper 50's. Well, I just looked at the overnight runs and those 50's can be thrown out the window. As you can see by the image below, the closest 50's to Schuylkill County would be in Philly or NYC.... Latest guidance also suggests a very soggy Turkey Day. Look at the total rainfall from the 00z GFS in the image below. Let's hope this does NOT verify... Sponsor: Wendi’s Flowers 438 W. 6-14 Day Outlook from the Climate Prediction Center

Image
By: Ryan Fannock 6-14 Day Outlook from the Climate Prediction Center In the images below, you can see the CPC is expecting temps to go from below normal to near normal in the long range. This is a big difference from what they were earlier anticipating. If you saw my last article about this, they were expecting temps to be above normal. What happened? Well, model guidance trended cooler. The weather is very unpredictable; especially at this time of year. But I do agree with their current images. It seems to be the going trend lately for temps to either be below normal or near normal. As for precipitation, the CPC believes things will play out right around normal. Weather Word of the Day: Sun Dog

Image
By: Ryan Fannock Weather Word of the Day: Sun Dogs What is a sun dog? A sun dog (or sundog) or mock sun, formally called a parhelion [1]  (plural parhelia) in  meteorology , is an  atmospheric   optical phenomenon  that consists of a bright spot to one or both sides of the  Sun . Two sun dogs often flank the Sun within a  22° halo . The sun dog is a member of the family of  halos , caused by the  refraction  of sunlight by  ice crystals  in the atmosphere. Sun dogs typically appear as a pair of subtly colored patches of light,  around 22°  to the left and right of the Sun, and at the same  altitude  above the horizon as the Sun. They can be seen anywhere in the world during any season, but are not always obvious or bright. Sun dogs are best seen and most conspicuous when the Sun is near the horizon.
