Very detailed info on this rainstorm

Rain has moved in across the area. This will continue, heavy at times, overnight while you sleep. Based on the latest model guidance, any heavy rain will transition to scattered showers after daybreak Thursday. There may be some dry periods, drizzle or even steady rain at times throughout the day. The next batch of heavy rain arrives in the evening. This is where things get tricky.

Below I snapped a few screenshots of the future radar on WNEP. If you ever want to check out a good future radar, this is ALWAYS my go to. I know there are still some trick-or-treats planned for Halloween evening. If you look at the 3 images below, there are time stamps. Around 5:30pm, there's just some scattered shower activity over Schuylkill County. By 6:30pm, there's a break in the action for a good chunk of the county. Finally, by 7:30pm, the next round of heavy/steady rain is moving in.

With that said, these times are NOT set in stone. This is just how the future radar looks as of 11:00PM Wednesday. What should you take from these images? The fact that it may just be "showers" instead of heavy rain during trick-or-treat hours. Plus, you may even squeeze out a dry period at some point.

Very heavy rain will accompany a cold front as it moves across the state. This should happen between the hours of 9pm and 11pm Thursday. As always with a front, it's going to be very warm just before the front moves through. I'm talking temps around 11pm near 67-69 degrees. Behind the front, temps will drop.

Rain will end after 2am Friday. In Western PA, there's even a chance for some Lake Effect Snow Showers early Friday morning. Yes, that's how cold it's going to get across the state AFTER the front moves through. Skies will clear out early Friday morning and we'll go mostly sunny for the entire day! However, the high for the day will occur just after midnight. Temps will drop as the day progresses.

WIND: Gusts on Thursday will range from 20-30mph at times. Higher gusts to near 40mph will be possible as the cold front moves through. Wind will eventually die down later Friday.

RAIN TOTALS: I'm expecting anywhere from 1.5 to as much as 3 inches of rain across the area.

Snow Possible for Eastern PA

By: Ryan Fannock

10/30/2019

There's a storm modeled around November 9th and 10th that could bring us some snow to Eastern Pennsylvania. The 0z (overnight run) of the GFS (American Model) has this storm hitting the East Coast. However, it's the first run to show this setup. It's time to sit back and watch future runs unfold. It would be pretty awesome if we got multiple runs in a row to start showing this event. But 9 times out of 10, that doesn't happen. Maybe it's sniffing something out early; maybe not. Only time will tell. For now, here's a snow map showing 3" in Scranton and up to 1" for the Red Circled area where many of you live.
